This is not at all the photo I intended to compose, but with an apartment full of hungry guests I only had time to get about 10 shots. Plus I was a little worn out from cooking for two-plus hours at this point.
These are pork & shrimp dumplings, with a subpar attempt to wrap them in a floral style. Full disclosure: They look OK, but they weren't that tasty this time around.
Recipe involves:
Handmade dumpling dough (flour and water)
Pork
Shrimp
Scallions
Ginger
Sesame oil
Soy sauce
and a few secret ingredients my mother uses
As for the image:
Crop
Saturate

Very nice presentation and composition. Your exposure is good also. But, I think a bit more contrast would have made this photo perfect. Your whites don't seem quite white.
I like the perspective of this shot - I would have maybe draped a cloth and placed everything on that - as the burner is a bit distracting and takes away from the quality this image could have, I like seeing the ingredients in the bachground and it looks delish :)
I really like the angle, the way the food is arranged on the plate, the focus, and the fact that you not only showed the finished product, but have the ingredients in the background also. Bumping this up one more
Great composition, but the image lacks pizzaz - a bit flat in lighting and lacking in contrast. Also, the stove burner on the right is a bit distracting - perhaps if it had been covered with the red potholder?
great food, great presentation on the plate but the backdrop is killing this for me, had the lighting been slightly more vibrant and a clear white backdrop just going out of focus this would have been one of my faves. Oh nice angle of the shot too...
Nice composition on the plate, but I don't like the slanted perspective -- it looks as if everything is going to slide to the right. I think you tried to get too much into this picture -- it gets cluttered at the back and the orange and blue of the flour bag doesn't really go with the rest of the composition. Also, I think this would have been better on a mat or table, not the kitchen stove. Now that I've trashed you 8), I think you've exposed this well, and everything that should be in focus, is in focus. Keep on shooting. 5
