I don’t know if this will be judged as a good image or not. Voters and their comments will tell me; although with so many entries, it may get lost in the crowd.
What I set out to do was to create a multiple exposure using the Nikon D200’s in-camera capability. This is NOT image overlay, but rather MULTIPLE EXPOSURE taking sequential images within 30 seconds of one another and recording it as a single frame. There have been a few threads wondering if and opining on whether this was legal.
Arguments in favor: 1) All done in camera; 2) Other digital cameras can create multiple exposures and their images haven’t been DQed; 3) External apparatus (mirrors & lens caps) to create multiple exposures using digital cameras (e.g. Canon) has been judged legal; 4) Mimics what can be done in most SLR film cameras; and 5) Doesn’t use out-of-the camera post processing to combine images.
Arguments against: 1) Violates the spirit of post processing rules forbidding combining multiple images; 2) Single (or multiple) exposures haven’t been defined; 3) Gives an unfair advantage to those able to afford the newest cameras; 4) The rules are internally inconsistent, and therefore what’s illegal in one place should take precedence over it being as legal somewhere else; and 5) Actually I can’t think of a five.
I won’t self DQ this, but I suspect it will receive a validation request. Then, let the games begin.
PS. The grain is intentional. It is not a camera artifact.

Interesting, but I think the organizers might due well to clarify the line between double exposure & elements of two separate photos. I think this photo is very creative, even if it is on the edge of qualified.
Great imagery that illuminates the title. Kudos.
