 The famous gate at the Toshogu Shrine. My father took a photo of it in 1951 - on the back, he wrote, "The most beautiful thing I have seen."
I don't know any of the people in this photo.

As of 2013, this gate will be enshrouded by scaffolding for ten years as it undergoes renovations. (They've already discovered some paintings hidden behind panels that hadn't been seen for two or three hundred years.) August 2013
