 There seemed to be more interest in the pencil element of my Office Art entry, and so using some of the advice given in Davids critique of my entry I have produced this image which I think may have gone down a bit better during the voting.

I think it's cool that you redid the shot (or at least the post processing. I've done that with a few of my photos and its true--I learned a lot, too. Isolating the pencils works for me. It has more clarity in terms of knowing what we should look at. Nice work Alan! I still wonder though...why did you include the coffee cup? If you wanted that element, it may still work to put it in here . . . somewhere. Another thought: put links to both versions in the Forums and see what others think. I'm just one guy with weird ideas!
