This firefighter was guarding a bonfire on new years eve. Very little editing just crop, levels and USM. And in case you are wondering "Bonfire in the city?" Yes we do that in Iceland on new years eve. Every neighbourhood has at least one :D
PS. thougt my lense was going to melt the heat was so intense.

I like that I get a "tension-less" feeling out of this photo; instead of seeing a fireman attacking the fire, it seems he's just looking at it, having given up trying to put it out.. just waiting for it to end, contemplating about what or who got lost in it. 10!
Wow I love the fire blazing fiercely in the backdrop and how it lights up the contours of the fireman's face. I love the colour scheme and the composition of the photograph alot.
This is awesome. Just enough detail in his silhouetted face. The colors are beautiful (sorry for saying something so tragic is beautiful, but it is) I just love this one. 10
to me this does not depict city life as a fireman could be anywhere as they are not only in the city - I do like the over the shoulder perspective though
I think the shallow DOF less effective here since not enough of the face is shown and the flames would be interesting if given more detail, also not expressive enough of the city
Fabulous photo. This is really awesome. Great use of focus and DOF, focusing us on the fireman, but the intense, bright color of the fire also jumps out at us, even more than the man at first.
Hmm...doesn't strike me so much as city life as it does a good portrait shot. I see the connection, I just feel it has more potential in another catagory. Love the reflected light on his face, and the OOF fire in the background.
In another challenge this would score highly for the study, composition and evocation. Being picky though, this is not definitively City Life, since the firefighter could be anywhere - but I like this shot muchly.
Lovely moody dramatic shot. Could be at one of the bush-fires here in Australia. I love the composition and colour, sharpness is wonderful. It perhaps doesn't convey "City" very much, but other than that it's perfect. Definitely at the top-end of the results in my opinion.
