There's a story behind every image ... He was walking toward me and I felt sorta guilty but he fit what i envisioned as the less fortunate side of city life. He allowed me to take a few shots and asked about my camera and other stuff -- "yes, it's japanese" but I didn't know where he was going with that ... anyway he said i could use his image. A really nice man in an unfortunate position in Cleveland during the winter. Near Cleveland State University- on his way to try to get a shower.

I had a real problem with this image. As stunning as it is, when I loaded it I thought he was a peasant farmer. There's no city, no hint of a city so in no way could I place the subject in city life. As painfull as it was, I had to give it 4.
Nice candid portrait. The "matching" beard and hat make a wonderful woolly hamburger bun enclosing his face. I suppose some will be saying "Where's the city?", but where else are you going to find this guy but in a city? He's not going to look comfortable driving a tractor on a farm. He can only be a city guy. It's a very good interpretation of the challenge, to choose a subject that is not the city, but is nevertheless unmistakably part of the city. If the theme was "Africa", the face of a leopard would be equally legitimate, would it not? Bump to 8.
this is filled w/emotion........... can see him sitting on street corner. Maybe increase contrast a tad or somehow make it brighter / more luminous.....can't offer any specific suggestions as I suck at that sort of thing.....7
Stunning portrait! Need I say any more? Colour is brilliant, composition is great. Bordering on being over-sharpened, but not quite (for this size at least). Perhaps for this challenge placing him in the city (via the background) would have been effective, but it's still a great shot.
This is awesome! It looks like he's here in the room with me its so clear and 3-dimensional looking. Perfect depiction of City Life! One of my most favorites in this challenge! 10
this portrait works without a background because the man is his own background. I see a city living in him, so I will give this portrait one more point than the other good portraits I've seen.
Excellent photo! I like the cropping and the use of color, I find myself converting too many of these type of photos to Black and White. I have taken a lot of shots similar to this and this one I like, he looks so tired or stoned, not sure which. 8 .
i love the title. it shows that you took the time to get to know this elderly man. i love the detail in his face and the look in his eyes. nicely done. 7
