Challenge: The Username Challenge (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenges
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM
Location: Harwich Port, MA, USA
Date: Dec 24, 2005
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Dec 24, 2005

Unbelievably straight-from-camera exposure, processed from RAW with strong contrast and color saturation, slight tweak of the hue in the red channel, sharpening is basically all there is. I threw a very slight gradient down from the top as well to contain the image a bit.

Edit: upon reflection, I decided to do a separate edit on the foreground to bring more life to the water, with levels and saturation adjustments, Someone remind me to post the first version after, please :-)

There's also a heavily-cropped version of a similar shot, zeroed in on the sun with a stronger reflection trail, that may better-suit the "stare_at" aspect of the name, but this image is so much stronger compositionally I went with it.

It had been my intention to shoot crab_appl, but I couldn't find any crabs, amazingly enough. I was gonna let this one slide, but today's sunset was outrageous so I just grabbed a stare at the sun :-)

Nice photo and composition. Just a little over saturated on the sun itself...looks just a bit odd, but overall, very pretty.

A breathtaking sunset, complete with almost the full circle of the sun... I wish there were people in the picture to represent "stare at the sun" as the username suggests.

nice shot. is this a pure photo or was the sun given any help. There are two black dots under the sun that are minorly distracting from the sun.

Beautiful and enchanting. A minor suggestion: I would have cloned out the magenta area right across with the dark. Magenta is just not seen in such purity in sunsets. However, I love the image and that is just a minor point. Bumping up.

I'm generally not a fan of sunsets, but the "molten" area around the sun makes this very interesting -

Beautiful sky...the clouds are lovely here. The birds on the rock add just the right amount of interest. Good capture.
