Shooting into the sun made this shot a bit difficult. I had a nice view of the city in the background, but had to crop it due to lense flair. I was afraid if I tried to turn him around to get better lighting he might wake up.

This is a great overall image and evokes emotions from the viewer. I don't agree with the comment of cropping out the hydrant, because it gives the viewer an idea of where you took the photo. Nice job shooting into the sun.

Thank you for your comments on my photo “Basket Case”. I suspected I might receive a few remarks as to the insensitivity of the title. After following the posts in the forums over the last several weeks regarding titles, I was curious as to how this would be accepted. I believe the impact of this photo speaks for itself. The emotion it brings out is exactly what I had hoped to capture. Can you imagine seeing this in person? It is very clear to me that you truly care and have genuine concern for the well being of the homeless, -That’s exactly why I took this picture-
Please look up the definition to “Basket Case” //www.m-w.com/
My reaction when I saw the title and THEN the pic: "Oh no!" Real graphic shot of homeless people having it rough. Nice composition of: 1. clear (I can see everything clearly) and 2. shadows.
This is a horrible yet wonderful shot if ya know what I mean. I love the slanting light, it adds a poignancy to the pic. Well composed too this is one of two "10's" this week for me. Small thing: I'd love it if his face was catching a bit more of the light.
I really don't like the attitude to homelessness and poverty suggested by your title - firstly that it's a lame play on words, and secondly that it suggests the guy is crazy. When I see someone on the streets like that, the only "basket case" I see is a society that allows this to happen. If you think I'm being weird, just read a bit about it. Go and find out how many homeless people are war veterans or have mental illnesses, and wonder why the industrialised world doesn't have systems in place to care for them...
The fact that your photo has such an effect on me shows that it's a good photo. I just wish you could be more neutral with your title and let the viewer decide for themselves how it makes them feel. I'm giving it 9 anyway. (lisae)
good shot! i like the statement and it's definitively something you'll see only in cities. somehow i think the photo would be better without the hydrant but i guess you couldn't push him a little down the street ;-) photo 9, creativity 7, city life 10 = 9
Best of the bum shots. Hard to see his face, otherwise terrific. Don't normally like these type shots (life's underbelly), but this is sooo well done I had to grade up. Photo 9 City 9 total 9
Definately tells the story, good choice of subject. IMO though, I would have croped tighter to remove destracting elements. Still one ov my top ten picks this week.
Man that hurts just looking at him. I wonder if he could get a ticket for "parking next fo a fire hydrant". I really love this photo and believe you have displayed the essence of city life.
poor guy...he'll wake up with a terrible crick in his neck. Did you ask him to pose for this? I'd like a tighter crop so I could see his face better. 8
So sad. I see about 2 homeless people under the I-65 bridge but I didn't have the heart to take a picture. I hope you gave him something to eat if he's a real homeless person:)
This is a great photo. Personally I don't care too much for the title (witty, but inappropriate) Image quality is fantastic. Definately relays a message.
Oh man. Talk about a picture that evokes emotion. O guess I could nit-pick about composition, etc., but the picture just holds my attention. 10 (Wonder if he got a ticket for parking beside a meter? Sorry, couldn't resist)
Speaks volumes and can be understood by anyone - anywhere in the world. I'm sorry all of the shadow wasn't included in the shot would of been a winner. Good eye. Kee
A sick part of me wants to start pushing him down the street. I think its a great photo. Especially with the yellow hydrant, post and the orange cart. It brings out how out of luck that guy is. one of my 10's
