I left a lot of empty space at the left to create the illusion that the wasp is flying from left to right. In reality it was hanging in the air approaching a flower, like a hummingbird.
The dark background is a shadowed part of a wooden fence.

From your comment, it seems you dont realise that this is a hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus), and is in the same order (Diptera) as houseflies and fruit flies, rather than the bees-wasps-ants order (Hymenoptera). A wasp on the wing would be *really* hard to capture, as they dont hang about and spend hardly any time at all at each flower. Congrats on a top 10 place.

I think I would like this better with the negative space in front of the bee, to show where he's headed. That's just me though, I think it works either way.
Althogh the quality of this shot is not the best, I think it fits this challenge very well. The use of negative space makes it feel like your subject is moving through the frame. There is a lot of noise in the background though.
Excellent, one of the few shots on DPC that are hard to do and well executed. I often struggle with glare on this species. Oh and congrats on not calling it a bug, that one really drives me mad.
Those bugs are so fun to shoot because they just hover like that so it's easy to get a shot of them. Great job, except I would have shown a little more above and below it.
The insect should have been on the other side of the shot.. this shot leads your eye out of the shot.. Even though the motion is captured in still form your mind wants to see where the insect is going! Well frozen however!!
What a surperb shot. Wow. So far this is one of my favorites. I like the cropping you choosed to use. I wish I could get a shot like that. I'm jealous ;) Good luck! (10)
