Actually im just one day off from being a taurus.
self-portrait, used an external flash from the back/side as lighting.
thanks labuda.

This is the picture that got me into DPC. I remember looking at this picture a while ago when I was debating whether to get a digital camera or not. This pic swayed it for me and I got a canon powershot thing for the following christmas and that set me on the road to getting my own business cards, own website, becoming the photographer for a professional wrestling company and a whole host of other stuff.
I love this picture. I absolutely adore it and when I look at it (which I still do) I'm reminded why I love photography and I get the same feeling today that I still did back then, that a perfect and beautiful image can be created by anyone willing enough to make it happen.
You should be very proud of yourself for this one. It's a glorious image and has a special place in my favourites. If you ever do a printed version, let me know as I would love to have this on my wall as a reminder. Hell, I might even pay you for it :)
PS: JPR...your not the only one, except I thought the old man was trying to touch his nose with his tongue....easiest to see in the thumbnail. A new version of a Rorschach Test.
Am I the only one that saw the smoke as an old man with glasses with his dentures out and a handrolled cigarette in his mouth?
congrats
Man JPR, i still have no idea where you got that image from! do you mean when you first look at the thumbnail, or in the fullsize version? you really got me curious...
With all due respect to the other images, but this was my pick for the BLUE. There is no other image in the archives of DPC that rival the sheer strength and beauty of this image. To me it represents the perfect TEN. And this was my only TEN with many others trailing at nine.
Congratulations on your well deserved Ribbon. This effort is stunning.

CONGRATS on your ribbon and third place. I like how the smoke takes on a life of its own in all your images. Beautiful contrast between the silhouette and the smoke. Well Done.
Awesome lighting and capture of the smoke. Very interesting to view. The figure's stark angular face really contrasts well with puffs and light and curves and lines of the smoke. Excellent. a fav for sure.
Very cool abstract study. While Taurus is evident I also see a bit of Salvatore Dali in the smoke curls of mustache. Like the lighting particularly how it accents his right eye. Nice work, good luck. -10-
Interesting. My eye is drawn first to the bright smoke, then while following its shape, wondering what it is, I suddenly see the man and understanding clicks in. Effective.
LOVE THIS! Thumbnail does not do this shot justice. There is so much detail in the image, and the lighting is incredible. How is it so dark, but light enough to capture the smoke so well?
One of the most highly artistic studies in this challenge. 7 on first pass. Will return!
This is a well thought image with an appropiate tiltle. I do hope it receives the credit. Yes, many novice photographers always avoid voting high a dark image but then they cheat themselves in understanding. Others have a political aversion to cigarette smoke. But surely, the looker should be bowled over by the subject presentation, technique and outstanding composition. You have my full 10 and I wish you luck.
I think I recognize this model and whether or not I'm right, this is unbelievably good. The lighting and that velvet smoke. HOLY $#*T!!!! I am in total awe. 10
Just to let you know after seeing all of the entries this is still my stand out favorite. Sooooo artsy and esthetic. BRAVO - Bravissimo!!!!!
The curls of smoke is what is so riveting and spellbinding in this photo. The misty curls that flow and undulate forth from the model gives rise to imagery of Taurus the bull as he snorts/belloes his fury before charging across the night sky.
Wow, awesome lighting and a perfectly black background to show it off well.
I don't care too much for the upper, thinner bits of smoke, but I"m too busy admiring the light and that wonderful white puffy cloud to bother much about it.
I wonder how many of those you took before you settled on this one. 9
Really great photo you've got here. Like how the out lines of the model is lit and how the smoke has been frozen. I get a very pro feel from this photograph...
Very cool, but I might have liked just a tiny bit more light on the dark side of his face, to give a bit more dimension to his eye and cheek. The smoke is amazing...
There's something very appealing at work here. The shadow and light play at first is a bit confusing, but this for me is one of those shots that give rewards after a bit of contemplation. Nicely.
wow, had to really look at that for a second. great shot. lighting is done well. exposure looks to be just a tad under exposed but not by more than a half a stop. overall great picture
I like the idea, but I'm finding the detail of the sweater distracting. just the face and the smoke would have been better in my opinion. nice try though 6
