These are painted plastic figures of characters from the 12th century war between the Minamoto and the Taira clans.
I have only five of a set of eight (with a couple of duplicates, in this series). I assembled them and took them to a nearby bamboo grove, and placed them on stacked bamboo trunks. I liked the shot of these three better.
The horseback archer represents Nasu Yoichi, who also featured in my Time Capsule challenge photo (as a re-enacted.)
The colours of the two opposing armies were red and white, and to this day school children are divided into red and white groups (with reversible caps).

5 - Like the concept and set up. Criticism; perhaps a sharper angle, trying to create a more dramatic effect may have made this better in my opinion. Perhaps also placing the bamboo further in the background, may have created a better 'depth' here too. edit:typo
