My tribute to the original pic
here took me a long time to figure out how to do it... finally my setup was water in a non-stick frying pan with window light through blinds...
Post processing was cleaning up the air bubbles and blemishes in the pan
Lines perpendicular to the clip gives more different shapes than when aligned parallel. I will have some out-takes posted after the challenge...

I thought this was top 10 material - excellent photograph and it *is* much better than the original. I like the "magnetic lines" feel of the whole image - very cool.
Ho man, I love a shot that turns out so wonderful and only had 'round-the-house props. (runs off to try it himself) I had this higher, but still an excellent shot.
hmm oil ? I used water. My first thoughts were to use oil, but density of oil is less than water, also I am not sure how the surface tension of oil is, will it support or not ?
Like the abstraction about the paper clip. Not sure I would have gone with a white clip though. Perhaps a another color? It is so stark that if keeps me from the great lines around it. I wish it blended in more.
Having seen this idea first in Visions of Science photography competition, I tried to replicate it and failed miserably. But you've done it quite well, except for the somewhat blown highlights on the clip, which by the way could be sharper.
One of my favorites, even though the paperclip isn't as sharp as it could be.
I love the compostion and the colors. This photo is a fascinating mix of simple yet complex. Brilliant idea, love it! 9
This is an amazing shot. I was actually planning to do a similar one for this challenge, but reality conspired against me. Anyhow, I hope this one will ribbon as it should ! (10)
Very stylish shot full of satisfaction. While I've seen this kindo of thing before (and who hasn't seen any shots on this site before?) it's fascinating.
