I love these types of portraits. With only one shot you made it worth it. The next time you're going to that village, plan to spend a little more time to get "THAT" shot. Well done.
This is such a moving image - and then when I read your own comments about the photo, I almost cried. It's amazing how long it sometime takes us to really notice other human beings around us. Thanks for letting so many of us see and think about this. Very well done!
I really love the mood of this shot. The colors are great, and the expression on the woman's face is priceless. My favorite part is that you cropped out part of her hand - it makes me feel like I'm in the scene, and she's asking me personally for a handout. Great shot!
COMPOSITION... You've done a great job overall -> a very moving and poignant photo, very well fitting to the challenge anc cleanly executed. The main colors in the photo really do go well together - it was your only shot but you managed to get a good expression. What I find really detracting is the sign on the top left. This could easily be cropped out, or if possible, blurred by a shallow depth of field (difficult for digital, I know).. Cloning the text out only is also possible but of course, not DPC legal. The arm feels kind of odd. I'm not sure if its because the hand is not in the frame, or if the size of the arm looks disproportionate due to the angle its in.
TECHNIQUE... there's an overall softness to the focus in the image. Not sure how much the unsharp mask filter would help, if you haven't already used it -> give it a try if not. A little more exposure may have helped a little more.. Wish I could see a histogram of the photo to know for sure but there are is no image editing software installed on this computer. The shadow detail is a little lost, in the hair particularly. You can go in and dodge that area and see if you can get some definition in the hair...
OVERALL ... This photo has appeal due to the raw emotion it portrays, and because of effective composition - your placement shows it :) With no editing restrictions, I think you can make it even more outstanding :)
I have been walking by this woman for over 10 years when I'm in a small village in Mexico, she was just a part of the street scene and then I saw her thru my camera and I really was impacted, especially when I put the photo on my computer and looked at it away from the area. I got one shot of her before she was surrounded by shoppers, just one shot, I wanted several!!! And Yes I did give her some money! Gallatin
Very powerful - painful to look at in the way that a good photo of this sort should be. I like the way you've cropped it close, letting her take over the shot - that, and the plain wall, makes a very stark shot, very well-done.
It is sad the truth some folks live with...I did feel this when I looked at this shot. if the crop could have included the whole hand I think I would have liked it even more, still a very nice image 8
Great shot/expression! My only nitpick would be that I think it would have been a little better to include more of her hand -- otherwise it's not obvious that she's begging for money.
I really like this shot and the contrast of her dark clothing and the red of the wall behind her. What I don't like is her arm extending out of the frame. It's too bad you couldn't get her whole arem in. The black border is nice, but I'm not too sure about the red bit inside. Good job overall.
I like this - the oustretched hand is very sad and draws the eye into the picture. However, its just a shame you didn't capture al of the hand for an even better effect. All the same a good capture - 8
a recommendation would be: please dont cut her hand.. it would be more interesting see her hand asking for some money, and her shoulder too.. or change the angle of view, it would be nice to see her eyes seeing you..
Very nice capture. I would've liked to see it with a smaller DOF to focus only on the face and blur the wall and writing in the back as well as some of the blanket. Great color!
Wow, what an emotional portrait. The skinny outstretched arm and her worn face are so contrasted by the bright and happy colors. A wonderful portrait of a sad situation. The only thing I'd change (and I know that it isn't possible within the current challenge guidelines so no point deduction) is the text in the top left corner, make it the same color as the rest of the wall. You might have a winner here ...
Beautiful coloring, lighting and composition. I'd like to see the tips of the fingers on the outstretched hand, but that's my only nit-pick. Good work.
