a somber concept - i know, but a common occurance as well. i think this is a successful photograph - simple, technically sound, emotive, with a clear message. i imagine it will suffer in the voting stage due to subject matter - and say pishaw to that... it prints well - with much more detail on the razor blade.
printed an image where i wrote 'bye' with my tablet pen. shot aiming down with 550ex & ambient light. adjusted black and white points. selected the text - gaussian blur - fade to 35% - canvas size for border - resize - USM - save as for web. took the dog out for some training, came back in to find my fake blood had blown off the table and spilt on the carpet. DANG !

I wonder if the text is really neccessary? And the drops need to be a little redder for me ... or is that my monitor? Very effective though. And it allows a lot of interpretation.
For some reason this desperate theme has a touch of whimsy in it. It seems too well laid out and planned or neat and arranged to convince me that this was a true end of life act. Its a good photo - I'm just unsure of the mood that you were trying to portray.
This is a bit contrived, but I really really like it. The BYE really makes the photo. It is simple and tack sharp. The "blood" even has light sparkling off of it. WOW 9
