First of all I have to say I really liked this shot and it got a 9 from me.
Composition wise your pose is excellent and so is your facial expression. Maybe lowering your left hand and exposed all of your face might have helped just a little bit.
Technically wise I wish you would have used a greater depth of field. It seems that the part of the photo that has the sharpest focus is your right thumb and palm. I like how the ends of your fingers are a little blurred but your face seems a tad soft to me in comparrison to your hand. Don't get me wrong, I love soft focus but not when your hand is so sharp and this is after all a self portrait. Besides that the lighting is good as is the tonal range. Plus im such a sucker for B&W and sepia so that almost always works for me. The shadows on the wall add another element to the photo which balances to almost create a square around you.
Overall this is a very creative shot which shows much character in you which in my opinion is the best thing about self portraits. It doesn't just show you...it shows who you really are. Good job.
At first glance it made me think "Stella!", but then the facial expression is much more deviant than that. So excellent. You provoked a thought or two. Good work.
I don't even really know why, but I like this one a lot. I like the expression on your face, and the way your hands just lead into the picture so well. The only thing is I think maybe its cropped too tightly on the bottom - the whole left hand should be included. Thats minor though, and I am still giving you a 9.
Fantastic - the slightly manical look on your face also adds to what is already a great photo. Great composition, but focus looks to be more on your left hand than on your face. Almost makes me dizzy looking at this. Well done
Like the idea and the expression - most people seem to have forgotten how appealing smiles are.
Composition seems unbalanced to the right - I don't think the extra space at the right works or is needed.
Like the DOF and shape of the hands.
Focus doesn't seem sharp.
The pose is fantastic! Like the choice of sepia over B&W, too. Gives the impression of some evil magician who went back in time. I'd crop a bit more from the right, personally.
Hello,
This is kind of different. Lite very well. You face is well lite and so are your hands. I would be interested to see how a shallower DoF would look here. I might have cropped a little more off the right hand side, maybe at your thumb, or added more to the left. Nice texture and colour.
nice dramatic angle. reminds me of the 4th place winner in the first portrait challenge. I liked that one too. Had the focus been just a bit sharper on the face, this would have been a 10 from me. shadows normally bother me, but I like them in this case. good shot. 9
