Different colors of sediment that have settled in the bottom of evaporation pools in the Bay Area. They are all different colors, although I only have a few here. The blue in the red pool is reflection of the sky.

aha, that just about has to be the salt ponds near SF. very cool stuff. it's actually not the soil that's colored (assuming I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing), it's algae in the water of different colors depending on the level of saltiness.
