You're crap, you know it, and you shan't forget it. By the by, do you have to be member to take part in advanced editing challenges? And too, I can't figure out how to get.... the merchandise we talked about using... the means we discussed. Do tell.
I'm going to start off by saying CONGRATS on a well deserved win. This photo of your Dad reminds me of Michael Landon and Little House on the Prairie.
I don't think there is any question you definately fit the challenge well. Your lighting, dof are all good.
Your sky is adding drama to the photo and truthfully there isn't anything I would change, unless I was to start nitpicking at silly things like the two blades of grass that cut your dad apart. I might clone those out or put a little bend into one of them.
Again congrats on the ribbon and keep up the wonderful work.
As scalvert said to me once, it's getting to be like high-fiving you for tying your shoes...
Congrats once again Joey - strong composition & mood here.
Not really my style, and maybe I am more of a purist, but I could see this on a cover of a book or somethin.
great picture-i guessed this would win the blue ribbon but i sure didn't know this was you. how did you get the sky to be cloudy-did you adjust the sky after the picture was taken or did you get lucky and have a clody sky.
There was a very cloudy sky that day and the shapes were made bolder with dodging and burning. Glad you dug it :-)

Had to know you would win this one Joey - you have the grain effect down pat - combined with your awesome photographic/creative skills you are a shoe in for the ribbon! :-) I think it's fantastic your parents are so supportive and will help you out with photos. Someday I'm going to see you in galleries!

I think this is one of your best photos to date. Atleast for me the emotion is intense in this photo and the viewer gets a strong sense of compassion or interest for the subject. For you to have been able to envision this shot before you ever got to the field speaks clearly of your destiny and genius.
Joey: you are indeed a genuine marvel. This image carries away the coveted BLUE by the sheer force of its nostalgic strength as it portrays a slice of the working class with such a loving feel. Congratulations!
hmmmm. Gotta say that as a photo I really loved this one...thought the mood, the pose, the entire setting and composition was fantastic. But I didn't peg this as a winner for this particular challenge. Too much emphasis on the grunge, and I think the grain doesn't look natural...it didn't blend well with the other processing techniques, in my humble little opinion.
You know I love your work, but I think you got some brownie points on this one because it was obviously your pic. Dont get me wrong, it's a fantastic image....just think it finished higher than it should. I'd LOVE to see this photo processed in other ways, because the whole idea of the shot is just fantastic.
Gritty drama! The extreme persepective just adds so much to the story of this image! Love the pose, the attitude, the grain. Only drawback for me is the darkening on the edges of the house and horizon--just a tad too much toward the grunge side. Nonetheless, one of my top pics for the challenge. Good luck!
If this doesn't win, I'm sure something else will. Anyway...this is a good shot. The graininess isn't overpowering but evident enough to be effective. Overall the shot is dark but this doesn't result in a detrimental loss of detail. The mood that I'm sure you were working to achieve is achieved admirably. Well done...something tells me we will all be seeing this shot for the next week or so.
Great use of grain and light but i wish the main subject was just a little lighter. This image is the first i have seen so far where the gain adds significantly to the feel and syle of the image. well done this should finish very high. (bumping up & fav)
This is a great shot. Such desolation and a feeling of losing something of importance. Also, one wonders if the impending storm reflects the man's soul, but may also be welcome in what looks like a drought and possibly his search for water....a 10
If that's petrol in the can then his insurance claim is bogus! Seriously, one of my top picks this challenge...mood, story and technique all good. JL??
Outstanding! The grain looks a little "fakey" at 2nd glance but it certainly does it's job by adding character to this picture. That was the purpose of this challenge after all.
8 - Good use of grain for the Challenge, adds to the 'drama' and 'story'. Criticism; not much, perhaps an even sharper angle (ground up), giving the man more 'dominance' and setting the 'house' back a little perspective wise, may have made this a better shot in my opinion. Maybe even a bit more sky, as it adds such a great 'effect'. Good shot open to a few 'story interpretations', 'desolation' being just one.
Wow! the mood of this image is intense and I love the way the figure seems so imposing and yet so alone and small in the scenery. Well done!!! Can't think of anything to change...
Wow. This is the ultimate use of grain. Perfect depiction on mood, great framing, awesome contrast to the sky. Can't say enough. Thanks. You get my 10.
The grain is highly effective here, but the figure in the foreground is overly sharp. When/if you repost process this one it might help to not sharpen him when sharpening the rest of the image. Very cool shot. 7
Hmm, you were right, ma friend. I do like this one. :)
Is that your daddy? I recognize the little barn/house thinger from one of your older shots, do I not?
Rural photography always looks GREAT in grain. Tremendous piece of Americana. Looks a tad over-processed, but you know what, I'm pretty fond of that style myself.
hard to say what I would do here - I feel like there is too much on either edge of the image and want to crop it a bit on both sides. At the same time I think it works much better in a landscape formate - so perhaps creating more horizonal space between the man and the building would have been more appealing.
A ribbon winner for sure. This is my second time around adjusting my votes and leaving comments and this image is a stand out. Very well done --great dof and the perfect amount of grain. Great job --10--
Perfect for the challenge, really represents the grit and turmoil of his life! The treatment is great for the ominous weather and the look of anxiousness on his face.
