Congratulations on your ribbon Gísli, well deserved! Took me a while to realize that it is from Ólafsfjörður the cottages by the lake. You grasp the image fantastically! I am sure they will get more visitors for the cottages if they have your picture as an advertisement;-)
I'm delighted to have the chance to study this image in detail.
It's beautiful, of course, and you were properly rewarded by the voters for finding this scene and interpreting it so very well. The sense of isolation, and yet warmth, conveyed by this image is excellent.
I know you folks in Iceland experience a lot of dark time at this end of the calendar year; you've studied the darkness and learned well how to use it.
(When I visited your beautiful country, it was July and all was sunshine and light.)
Keep up the good work. I hope to see you on the Front Page again.
I'm glad to see this do well. Deceptively simple shot, was afraid it would be overlooked. Great sense of warmth waiting in the middle of a dark, cold night.
I like this. The mountains are subtle enough to add to the picture and detract from the reflaections. The reflections are not mirror smooth which is good. A little crop from left to remove the island (?).
Very nice... I envy you if that is your home. It has a nice red hue that gives it an inviting warmth. I also like the amount of blur the lake gives the reflected cabin... not too much or too little. Although the cloudy top is dramatic, I would have liked to see the hillside continue up. Although it is hard to move the clouds, it almost looks like a giant wave about to crash down on the house.
This makes me want to be in that house, with a fire going and a cup of decaf coffee (since it's night time, you have to be able to sleep). Very peaceful.
8 - Very nice and simple. Nice colors and the house lighting really enhances this shot. Criticism; difficult, given the time of day and my comment just now on the house lighting, but I would like to have somehow seen more (I can discern a fraction) of the 'mountains' in the reflection, if possible. A slight tighter crop on the left, cutting out that 'land/rock'(?) may have also made this better in my opinion. The only other thing I would like to have seen (and forgive me if I am wrong) is a sharper focus on the reflection, rather than the 'real', with perhaps (if possible) a touch more water at the 'fore'.
