Thanks so much everyone...
im afraid this looks awefully dangerous, but in fact it's not, he is standing on the edge of a rock pool, and there is no 'cliff' or 'drop off', it just looks like there is....
should see the after photo, where he is being pushed back in to the pool....
** NOW for validation, lets hope nothing was lost when i revcovered these photos after deleting them.....**

Truly exceptional. TIming, color, composition and simply being there. Your work shows a sophistication and depth that stands out. Congratulations. You may want to consider simplifying your website to put your images at the forefront (right now it looks like to many amateur sites, your work is anything but amatuer). You should be making big bucks with your work.
i am going to re-comment....How can anyone not think this is borderline flawless? does anyone have any ideas as to this??? the tonality, emotion, relevance and power. I still have a long way to go...
thanks so much cutter, it's comments like that that keep me going....you've made me day....
p.s your work is so amazing.... i think your there, and don't have a l ong way to go.....

This is the trouble we have with only being able to submit small photo sizes, so we need to realise this on other photos as well, i have some great photos in print size, but reduce them to 640 and you would'nt look twice at them..... something we should keep in mind anyway...
The 640 res is something that I like because it protects our work from being stolen and printed. At least we all have to labour under the same restricton so it all becomes relative.
Brett
yes i totally agree..
sorry i wasn't complaining about the size, just trying to explain that this particular photo doesn't look it's best at 640...
cheers

Wow very cool shot! It does look dangerous. Hey I just recovered my dad's entire HD last night after he had to reformat it and reinstall windows and EVERTHING came back perfect. He reformatted it two months ago. He was extrememly impressed and shocked. You should get everything back. I used "Recover My Files"
This certainly captures the majestic beauty and power of the sea. I like how this capture shows the man standing there braving what nature will throw at him. He seems to be welcoming it because we see his arms thrown open wide - like he is ready to recieve this gift; this revelation. The only thing that weakens the strenth of this image is that the man is so small in the frame that he is almost lost. I realize that this could be a visual statement that when compared to nature man is small. But the thing is you do not want him to get totally lost in showing the powerful beauty of the crashing waves. If you zoomed in a little more the viewer would more readily be able to see the man standing there than having to search for him.
thanks christine, i agree with you , but luckily it's only on a small 640 res that shows this, the actually photo in print size 24X16 is just totally mind blowing, you can see evrything...and it's just a tad lighter than here too....

Congradulations on your ribbon!! :-) I fully agree with you on the point that dimension size can make or break an image. In smaller images we don't always get the details or the majesty to a image at full view. As you said that you have this as a 24x16 and it is absoluting stunning. I am very sure that it looks absolutely wonderful on the wall:-)
Thats incredible. Such drama and mood. I'm sure that's Merewether tidal pool. I often tried to photograph it, when I lived there, - but never ever captured it like you have.
hey thanks.. your very close... it's Bogey Hole, just north of merewether baths.. when did you live there.??
and thanks so much for the encouraging words.. i was very lucky this day, i was suppose to be there at sunup, but we slept in, and didn't end up getting there til midday, i was bummed as it was a really hot glary day, then these guy's showed up , and gave me some fun to photograph... i have some really good ones of him getting washed back in the pool.....

i love this photo and i gave it a 9, but i can't understand how this is more of a celebration than some of the other photos receiving much lower votes
well to be honest, i think everyday is a celebration, especially if your alive and well, so for me this image represents the power of life, the force of how it makes us feel, what a big rush standing here in front of mother nature making you feel a part of her....
i spose i may be a tad weirder than others, but i find pleasure out of little things/feelings , and how they make me feel..i love getting a rush..espeically with something you had no control over...
am i making myself sound even weirder??..
OK, I happen to know who took this, and so I was intending to abstain from voting on it. However, because it is the most interesting and allegorically ambitious image in this challenge, I've decided that abstinence would be churlish. It's a brilliant photograph, even among the best on DPC. The figure seems to me to be jubilantly conducting a titanic natural orchestra (Neptune's Philharmonic plays Wagner?) ... a fabulous celebratory concept! The composition and the deliberately Stygian processing are just right for this subject and theme, although some sad souls will inevitably say it's 'too centred' and 'too dark'. Anyone with sub-standard greyscale monitor calibration may also call it 'too dark'.
And so, because I'd certainly give it a 10 if I didn't know who took it, I'm giving it one now.
This photo though, in my view, has been severely undermined by some gimmicky editing which it really does not need. The soft uber-burning has degraded the natural detail that gives it its power in the first place. I find myself wanting to strip all that eye candy away and see what was there in all its gritty glory, so stop tinkering just to win votes from DPCers who can't see past it!
Now that I've vented - I won't let it affect my score on this occasion, so have an 8 for a great photo in every other way.
; )
This is a bit on the dark, grungy side for my personal tastes, but I have a feeling it will do well with other voters. Cool waves and I like how small the man is in comparison to them. 6
the "grungy" look in this photo (I don't know if you used the plugin, ofcourse) really suits well. too bad the person is positioned in the center and so small...
Powerful image here.
First instinct says person is too centered, but after looking at it longer, actually works to show the power completely around him. Midnight sepia?
Nicely done (8)
Awesome shot, only downside with it I want to comment on is that I don“t really care for the person being in the exact middle of the frame but everything else is top notch, love the exposure, the duotone, the texture and PP. Highest score so far from me in the challenge, this got a 9, great work.
kick butt photo. love the scale of that person in the midst of all that ocean and spray. like the gray tone colors...feels like an oil painting when i look at it. really like this one. good luck!
wow..this photo has some serious power! love the processing. i was thinking that the man was too centered but i thin if you had cropped this any other way we wouldnt have gotten the enormanty of those huge waves crashing. great photo and good luck 10! :o) ~~Cher~~

WOW... Here's a shot where I think the centered subject works quite well because of the off-balanced weight of the waves crashing against the breakers. Beautiful tones and power. Terrific shot.
