My favourite model with traditional indian (from india) dancer's bells on and a traditional style lengha (skirt) with embrodiery.
I should get extra points for allowing my feet to be photographed and displayed on the internet! I re-shot this one 5 times, playing with lighting, angles and composition.
In the end, I used simply natural light and my timer, plus some pennies on the rug so I knew where to put my feet.

Hey I just found this - this is GREAT!
I am torn between loving it in B/W and thinking how much colour there would also be - Indian high colour and glitz darling! Though don't think the carpet would "go" if it were in colour!
This is a great shot!

Interesting comments you got on this one. Some I agree with, some not. Had this been a shot of MY legs in bells, I would have definately gone with black and white cause my legs are so pale and white that that would be the only way to balance it out. LOL Anyway, I think that color would probably be a bad choice here because of the busy patterns on the rug and the skirt. Also, I think that black and white really brings our eyes to the darkest subject, which is right where you want them to be, on the bells.
The bells are so big that they make the feet look really small, giving a couple people the impression they are kids feet.
I think that the suggestion for a slower shutter speed is a bad one. While it would 'show motion' the entire shot would be blurry and in some cases, that just doesn't work. I think that it would not work here at all. That is just my opinion.
I think that the focus is already a bit soft, but not to the point of making the shot unattractive. I think it's still a very nice shot full of detail.
Good shot of something that makes sound.

lol. those are YOUR feet? I thought it was a little girl... about age 3 or so. It was one of my favorites in the challenge by far. There seems to be a bit of a quality issue... soft focus or maybe it's light reflecting off the embroidery. I can't put my finger on it, but it isn't as clear as it could be somehow. Still, very creative and wonderful.
B&W is a good choice - the carpet and the skirt look like they;d be too busy in color. I'd like to see the dancer on a darker floor too. Still I like the focus on the feet from behind - really brings it down to the bells, and having the dancer up on toes gives sense of the motion which makes the bells ring.
This is a great photojournal (setup) shot. I like the history and culture in this shot - it's not mine, and it is intriguing because of that. I think people should take more shots of things that matter to them and stop thinking about "5.5 vs. 6.5" neither is a ribbon - take shots that make you happy - like this one! 10
Heh, I was wondering if I still had my old ankle bells but I couldn't find them. Nice choice IMO therefore. A slightly different pose with the feet further apart might have given a bit more emphasis to the concept of motion and therefore ringing but it's certainly not absent with the feet in the position they are, I'm just nitpicking.
I'm a little uncertain why you chose B&W for this as all the traditional dances I can think of involving bells are things that involve very colourful costumery; I don't think it would have distracted but rather helped. However, that rug might be colourful enough to prove me wrong.
sound, action, emotion, photojournalism! awesome image..
technically, I wish it were a bit crisper.... that is the only thing keeping me from scoring this a 10.
i find this frightening yet provocative. i know they're bells, but they remind me of those leather stud collars dogs or goth and heavy metal people wear. It is quite a brain warp! I really find it intriguing.
