I was your one lone 10 vote, I fell in love with this portrait, I think its the look on his face that grabs my attention, a very natural smile, the angle of his pose is unique and the colors in his hat and eyes add to the capture. Maybe you have to be a parent to appreciate this shot (Im a father of three, but I think this is very well done.
Greetings from the Critique Club!! Excellent shot! I love how you have captured the spirit of the boy, natural and candid, without it being what some call a "snapshot". I really enjoyed the composition, leads your eye and mind to what he is thinking. The lighting, detail and focus are all fine to me. The two circles in the background cause a slight distraction, but only slight. IMO this shot should have fared much better than the 5.3. Good work, and you have a beautiful subject to work with! Keep shooting!

looks a little blurry. Maybe low light conditions. I will take a guess that exposure speed was around or a little under 1/100? Could try using flash and bumping up ISO to stop camera movement.
