Not sure if anyone knows what the world of dance is like for these young dancers. It is worse than any public school out there. Girls can be so mean to others and as a dancer trying to move up in different levels is challenge not only physically but mentally as well. This little one is an amazing dancer and performer. Taking this picture was easy because she was her amazing self, modeling in front of the camera as usual. Not all pictures need to be of a child smiling or running around playing. I take those all to often..it is these shots that bring pictures to life....for me that is....
GLOOMY??? contemplative, maybe...but look at the joy in those beautiful colors! (um, why was she looking so distant anyway-way too young to be SOOO serious!)
Wow... Really Beautiful.
Sort of shot each of us would like to produce of one of our children!
Love the tender pose, the color of the dancewear against the starkness of the wall, the wistful facial expression...
Nicely done.

this picture is beautiful it captures how beautiful a person can be but with an ugly oustside like how the wall is so ugly but she sits ther looking amazing... one day i hope to get as good as that i'm working on it now...
The little lady is so beautiful and the photo shoot is excellent and well suited for the challenge. Her expression is marvellous. I very much liked the shot.
She is so tiny. Such a serious look on a tiny face! I really like this portrait. I think the colors of the outfit really bring some life to it. Congratulations on a wonderful portrait, and on the ribbon.
Wow! I didn't get to vote on all entries, but this one would have gotten a definite 10 from me. I love how pure and innocent the girl is, contrasting to the dark and graingy surroundings. She looks like a little China doll! Keeping the leaves in the foreground is a nice touch too. Excellent!!! You should definitely put this on DPCPrints.
I commented this 2 times already, I came back to this image over and over, and it's amazing I can't help one more :)). It's like I don't even know if you neatimaged it or not, some makeup is there too, but you mastered it so well that despite it's softness every single little detail is there and not melt like in the overneatimaged miages DPC seems to love so much.
It's just beautiful, the colors the expression, marvellous, everything, a masterpiece. Add to that your daughter is a little beauty.
I'd add this in my favorites 10 times. I'm so happy when somethin like this wins.
Perhaps allow more of her skin texture to be there. Great choice of background;
Yeah I don't typical care for this either but it definitely gives it a unique look. It does look better on females, IMO. Anyway, like what everyone else has said, it's a fantastic photo.
I am pretty lucky to have 2 lovely girls to pose for me..without them I wouldn't have got this I am sure. They do get tired of me shooting pictures of them, but they love to see the outcome. She will be please this shot won! I have a few more in this gallery of her and my other daughter. //www.pbase.com/sonifo/chandraya//www.pbase.com/sonifo/lilamae&page=3
Thanks to all of you!!! ((hug))
Kev, I used a process to lighten the middle and darken the edges slightly to make the young girl stand out. Didn't really do much else to the shot. I did crop it and probably wouldn't have changed a thing even after the comments. I like it just the way it is. I wanted the background to help tell the story. I do have a shot in the gallery that was messed with, but thought it would do to well.
Thanks to that special friend of mine who helped me choose this one. :-)) (hug)
Thanks for all the wonderful comments! You all rock!
Here she goes again. This is very beautiful. Excellent colors and the mood is also very good. Not your typical high-key shot BUT definitely of the same quality.
Congrats on a wonderful well deserved ribbon Soni !
She's just beautiful. I love the background with the leaves about you used. I'm always looking for that type of location but they seem hard to find.
Absolutely beautiful. The quality of this image is amazing given the small dimensions of the image necessary for sumission. Good to have you in ribbon territory again Soni
I must say, this photo REALLY stuck out to me... I was going through, got tired of scoring, then saw this one on the thumbnail... I must say, I grabbed a 10! I'm glad this photo won, it's excellent!!
Sonja,
You have a great composition here. It's just far enough off-center but not at a thirds line. It makes nice use of placement to weight the image a little without overbalancing it. The lightness of the patina balances out the colors of her outfit. I love how it looks like you have a vignette here, too. Did you apply a vignette or is that done with lighting at the time of shooting? Your skin treatment is fantastic as well. I love the slight softening of the skin that I'm perceiving; its serves to reinforce how the color interacts on her skin. The makeup stands out on her cheeks and lips and it leads me to feel that she's prepared to perform on the outside which contrasts with the look and the pose which looks like she wants anything but a performance. This is a wonderful submission to me since it seems timeless. It looks like you captured not just a set of blue pixels (which shows you that several of your peers like this) but it looks like you captured an ethos of lonliness or introspection or some other feeling to which many people can relate. Great job and congrats on that ribbon.
Wel-done lighting "natural selective desaturation" effect. For a "portrait" I'm always tempted to crop in closer, to focus more on the subject than the context.
What a beautifully composed photo. I love the muted light and how it seems to fall mostly on her. Her bright clothes contrast so well with the 'sad' background as does her expression. Perhaps just cropping a bit more on the right side to make her feel even more offsided? Very well done!
I adore this shot, it's one of my favorites in the challenge, and even more so now that I am back to look at it again, and comment. Her outfit goes so well with the overall color tone of the rest of the photo, and yet the colors she's wearing are superbly vivid. I love the look on her face, the way her hair is done, the dainty little necklace, just everything. Composition is wonderful too. Great work here!
Beautiful pictue! composition, colors, childs expression...the background wall and leaves on the ground all add to the picture. My favorite in this challenge! 10
This is an exquisite shot! You have it all here, composition, subject, technique... I think it is not only a 10 for this challenge, but a top DPC shot of all time!
As everyone is telling me and now i can see why, I would like to have seen just a slight more taken off the top. It would have given the photo a good wide angle. But over all subject is beautiful and the photo brings in the emotion. 8/10
Very nice. Well composed, nice colours. Overall very good. The fallen leaves would have been nicer if hey were stronger on he left side, but that is minor. Nice work on the burning to move the viewers eyes to the girl.
I really like this.. from the expression on her face to the juxtaposition of her against that wall. The contrast between the two are excellent. I really like the composition as well. Just lovely.
She is a very beautiful child. I like her tranquil pose. I find the softness of her skin a little to strong though. Perhaps allow more of her skin texture to be there. Great choice of background; nice and rugged of off set the beauty of the child and her ballet costume.
You're blessed to have such wonderfully expressive models. And they are blessed to have you to capture the beauty and joys of their childhood. This is really beautiful. The cheerful colors contrast nicely with the drab desolate scene she is posed in. Great composition. Nice job!
Gorgeous photograph even though she looks a little overdone on with neat image. I love the colors in the photograph. The dull, background setting really makes her vibrance stand out. Good Luck in the challenge!
I like this one alot. I like the space around her as opposed to being tightly cropped. I also like the leaves on the ground against the bright flowers of her outfit. I hope this does very well in the challenge - good luck! 10 :-)
Beautiful subject. Astounding texture and color contrast composition. Couldve done better with balancing and foregrounding though. I also just noticed that the space around the subject was distractingly dark and unnatural. But nevertheless a job beautifully done.
Love the colors! The little one has a great expression, but it's kind of sad... Don't like to see children that way, but it moves me! So you have my vote!
This is beautiful. She looks like someone waiting for to be picked up from ballet class. Nice colors on a drab background so I am really drawn to the girl. Nice work!
Beautiful. I love the contrast between the bright colors and her dressy outfit and the grime on the wall and fallen leaves on the ground. Nice faraway look in her eyes. Love her placement in the frame and the triangle she makes.
I like this alot. Her placement in the shot is well done. The complimentary colors of her ballet gown against the similar colors of the textured walls adds to the softness of her. I wish I could see her face closer and study the details. The skin seems just a smidge overprocessed although the coloration is nice. I know software such as Neat Image can almost plasticize skin sometimes. The leaves on the ground add a very nice natural sense to it all. Overall - REALLY GOOD.
Oh this is beautiful! Is she upset because you made her sit on the dirty ground in her lovely costume??? LOL. Anyway the clarity and the stark contrast between her and her background is excellent! 10
