Taken of an absolutely beautiful specimen of a rose grown by my brother & sister-in-law, Dale & Rebecca. I was visiting them for Olivia's first day at kindergarten (my niece). I played with the saturation and contrast quite a bit before deciding on this particular shot. I think the crop and tonal elements presented the best example of "high contrast" for this particular challenge.
I didn't take this shot specifically for this challenge (although I am always thinking of the existing/open challenges when shooting), but when editing/processing I thought that I could not only improve this photo by editing, but also to make it fit the challenge quite well.
Time will tell (as is always the case!). Regardless of my score, I'm happy with the image. I think I actually did the flower justice (for a change).

so far this is the best flower subject I've seen! Not oversharpened; pleasing to the eye.
2nd run through: If I could vote, I'd score this a 9.0! One of the top three flower shots.
This is a stunning macro and certainly suites the challenge. The velvety detail is wonderful and all the variations of yellow from gold to a greenish hue, can all be seen in the rose. There is just the slightest bit of green up above the rose that I can see on my screen, but other than that, it's awesome. I gave this a 9.
I personally dont care for the added glow to this rose. i would have preferred the sharp focus and natural light for this. still a beautiful photo and one you should be happy to have in your portfolio...good luck 8
