Glad to see somebody use some balance and composition in their photograph. I am voting through this contest for the first time and I cannot look at some of these photos. This however, I like. White milk, black cookie, good balance, however, could use a little more detail on the right area of the cookie.
Very cool concept and love the background! I think this could totally be worked on to make a good shot into a fab one. Of course these are just suggestions.
1) I would have used a real glass instead of a jar. Perhaps a taller, slim glass? Like some sort of a liquor glass (martini, screwdriver ect).
2) I don't know how many angles you tried shooting this, but I'm positive you could have gotten a better angle of that yummy oreo! :) Maybe by turning the glass counter clockwise, so that you'd get more depth of the oreo (and filling), and less of the staged cut to wedge it there.
3) I would have croppedi t differently so that it was a longer shot than wider; more of the glass of milk showing. I know you probably wanted the detail of the oreo to show, but I still think this would be possible with a farther away shot.
4) The light is glaring against the rim of the jar, and causing way too much distraction. I use my flash to a point, but if I can help it, I won't! I know it's tricky because you either need a VERY steady hand, or a tripod (which I have neither haha! I normally rig up some makeshift tripod lol). Then you can use a spotlight, a large flashlight or even a lamp with its shade off. If it's still creating too much glare, a white or light coloured sheet overtop of the spotlight will tone it down.
Nice set-up. Good lighting, focus and detail. It just looks like it is cropped a little too much at the bottom. Would like to see more of the milk glass. Now, I think I'll go raid the cookie jar.
Background is too dark, need more contrast between background and cookie. This appears to be some kind of bottle or jar, it would have worked better if it was clearly a glass of milk. Also the cookie seems overexposed.
