I recieved this PM from SDW65 shortly after the challenge ended:
As you know most the people here love Photoshop, including myself. But this photograph shows how an original, with little editing, picture can out shine the best photoshoped pictures. There is more emotion in your photograph that anyone or I could create by using post-processing. The title is great because you see it in his eyes, his grasp, and his facial expressions. Looks like he is about to or has been crying.
I'm sorry for the PM. But I felt this picture deserved more than just a comment say congratulations. This is truly what photography is about.

This and 41 comments during the voting is worth more than a 4th place finish any day. Thank you to all that commented and voted. I'm humbled.

This is Carey Bell at the Great Lakes Folk Festival. Hope ya like it!
Shot handheld at 200mm ISO 200 to get my shutter back up to 1\200th.
Yes, for Live music its great but would love to lose the blue mic either by cropping or preferable cloning. Unlike others I don't know the guy but his eyes certainly sing the blues! Excellent capture of time and emotion.
Carey Bell is such an awesome harp player & you really did him justice by this incredible composition. Had I not have been away from home during the month of this challenge, you would of got 32 10's. This really is a top effort. Congratulations on 4th place.
Congrats Dude! This is a great shot, I'm glad we were right about our conjecture on it's acceptance. Definitely well deserving of it's finish. And totally awesome about the possible doors the shoot opened up for ya! Just remember me when ya need an assistant :-P
I totally agree with SDW65. I've been a blues fan for a long time and your surely captured in this photograph the emotion that bluesman want to communicate usually. Congrats on your 4th finish.
Congrats on fourth. I had picked you to ribbon. Very very close between 2nd to fourth. Can't understand the one's, two's, three's, and even four's voted for this picture. I don't know what they were thinking.
Man those eyes have got the blues! This is a beautiful, evocative capture. As well as being a technically fine photograph, what I especially admire is the mood you've created; so sympathetic to this musical genre. Of course, the guy is responsible for a lot of that ... he's the perfect bluesman! 9
This is absolutely my favorite picture in this challenge -- bar none! Congratulations on capturing music, character, soul, and compositional perfection! 10
I don't think you've caught him at a good moment during this set... his eyes look unbelievably tired and I don't think it's particularly flattering. I bet he looked better when he was singing.
