I took this photo in a suburban field outside Ha Noi city, where the
boy
instead of sitting in class to build his future via the educational
path, being a buffalo boy.
I don't know between doing school's homework and tending water-buffalo
which task is more challenging and tough. If you place him in my
position, I believe the intelligent boy would pass the scholar demand.
But if you drop me in his shoes to look after the animal, I am thinking
about a giving up.
Whatever the destiny, this boy reflects my childhood and all about a
lovely past.
Thank you for sharing a moment of my memory. All critiques are welcome
and appreciated.
Sincerely,

Ew. Good photo. Bad message. School doesn't build a future. It cripples the intellect and demoralizes the human spirit. It forcibly squeezes an individual of one size to fit in a preposterous space of smaller proportion. It gives no time to fashion a self. And once it frees the poor soul, it leaves them dumb-founded and clueless as to what to do next. Compulsory schooling is a factory, a conveyor belt-process of instilling a mass-produced form of miseducation and brute discipline. I reason this because I have just left school, happily so, and couldn't feel more passionate about personal enterprise. To hear that you are somewhat upset that this boy is not in school makes me feel obliged to inform you that people go on living their lives, with all their heart and soul, without ever stepping once into such a prison as school.
Like the rest have said, great caprure. I do notice a slight halo around the bufallo, like your editing / blur tool was not zoomed / feathered in close enough. Trim up a few loose pixels around the bottom of the beast, and improve the blur feature close-in and you're there. All in all a fantastic shot.
This entry and your photography in general is fantastic. I particularly like the fact that 4 people voted this a 10 for a 'live music' challenge which just goes to show how good a picture it is!
I look forward to seeing more of your photography in future challenges.
It's a really wonderful photograph. If DPC ever has a competition for the best image to NOT meet the challenge, you will win the blue ribbon with this stunning work. Thanks for entering it & delighting us all!
This is truely a great image. I love it. Too bad you entered it in the wrong challenge, but don't worry about that. If you hadn't I would probably never had the pleasure to see this.
This is a STUNNING photo, and would make a great print... but I dont think it belongs in "music". Good luck with future challenges, you've obviously got a great eye for it.
This is a really good picture. Great colors and "tells a story", but I can't figure out what it has to do with live music. I'm going to be one of the Challenge Police and give you a 4 for that reason. Otherwise, I'd give you an 8 or 9.
Not too many of these water buffalos around. I'll take a gander and bet this is yours Manny :) I like the image as it is. However, I have to admit that this isn't really fitting of the challenge :(
beautiful, but being "asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base [my] rating accordingly" i have to downscore heavily, sorry
Really super photograph; a wonderful moment, perfectly captured. It's a National Geographic image. Alas, it's not a live music image. I'm sure you know that, but thanks for entering it anyway ... it won't score well but it will give us all a lot of pleasure. It is just fabulous! If only the buffalo had had a damned bell!
I am adding this shot to my favourites. Its is a really really beautiful shot, the colors are amazing, the narrative is beyond words, the mood, setting and everything else is perfect! It is just the wrong challenge for this shot imo. (guessing this is manny) You should enter this shot into a photo contest for example //news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4652389.stm the BBC photographer of the year competition for the environment theme (deadline october 3, 2004) or the UNEP annual photo contest, I dont think that has started yet.
I really, really, really like this shot !! -- and I am not one to get all hung up on rules. But, I just can't see how this is one of the better or even average photos to depict "Live Music"
Excellent emotive picture and it is well done. Nice lighting and focus. The weakness that will cost you high scores in this challenge is the loose association to live music.
Uh-oh. . . I bet you are hearing this alot, but I can't see any connection to music. It's an incredible photo that I absolutely love! BUT it's really hard to see it in a Live Music challenge.
Photo wise, this is another great photo from you. But it may be a bit off track to many western viewers. As an oriental, I knew why you chose this. The way we unstand the word of "Music" is a bit different than western world. I almost gone for a similar shot. I just hope this photo score well, since it is so oriental music type - slow pace and peaceful. I always enjoyed your photos.
What on earth doies this have to do with "music", live or otherwise? I have studied it and studied it and I just don't get it. What am I missing? Feel free to PM me if you like. It's a lovely picture, but...
Another wonderful photograph that has nothing to do wit the challenge. It is an insult to the quality of the photo to enter it in this challenge and for it to get (rightly!) the scores it deserves..
