I was out taking pictures of this storm and all the sudden I realized I was right under it. I got a little freaked out and was a mess trying to put the stuff back in the truck.
I used my remote to take this.
Did some burning and dodging and converted to b/w.

What an awesome photo. This was one of my top 3 photos for this challenge. You are a great photographer and this proves it. You rock. I am very happy for you my friend.
Soni~I am so impressed with your talent ... and photographic genius!
I am not a professional as you are but I know what grabs my heart ... and this is one! Bless you as you continue on your career.... Jane Walker
Really incredible capture. The lightning bolt is awesome, the composition with the fence is fabulous, but the thing that stands out almost more than that is the great contrast and tones in the image. Outstanding. Ansel would be proud.
This is very nice! I would have liked to see this cropped a bit tighter on the bottom or maybe with a bit more sky at the top. The fence is cutting the frame at a point too close to center, and the foreground information is overpowering the true shot which is the rolling hils, rain, and lighting. This would have been really great if the angle had been where the fence wire began at the bottom right and came in diagonally. What a wonderful capture though.
An instant 10 from me. I thought I'd already commented & voted on this shot, something must have happened. The title is so right, this is an extremely intense shot and an amazing capture, adding to my favs. Lightening plus barbed wire plus dramatic clouds plus Clint Eastwood-style fence posts plus barren landscape equals Intense. Arrange all of the above as you have composed and it equals Intensity!
- edit- rated this guy a ten and have come back now to add that I'm picking this as one of the three ribbon winners, good luck!
Ah, we may have found another of the winners! Amazing shot, crips and clear and well composed. Great contrast and subject matter. Very Ansel Adams. Wish the scores went higher than 10, 'cause it deserves higher. 10
really a very nice photo. the foreground and background all being in focus and of course the capturing of the brief moment of the lightening against the otherwise calm earth. certainly one of the best of the week.
This is a spectacular photograph. Masterful composition; every element is carefully positioned, and is contributing to the whole. There's nothing uncertain and nothing wasted. (I don't think it's going too far to compare it to good classical music, from a compositional point of view ... makes me think of "Night on the Bare Mountain' by Mussorgsky). Terrific tonal range, with satisfying detail throughout. Also a fascinating range of textures. It's an image filled with interest and reward for the viewer who cares to give it a couple of minutes' study. For example, if that's a rain guage on the second post, it's a very clever inclusion. I only choose one 10 and this is it. (I suppose some will quibble about the sharpening artifacts on the barbed wire, but I think the extra definition was necessary in this case)
Wonderfuly expossed pic, I tihnk that it would be better without the lighting though. Because my main focus is on the fence and the wire, the lighting kinda distracts from that.
Stunning image. I love the desolation. It might have helped to frame the shot so that lightning and the tops of the mountains were not so close to the barbed wire. Please tell us where this was taken. The only thing that prevents me from giving a 10 is that I don't see any rain, although the lightning is gorgeous. 9
Beautiful image. The lightening capture was wonderful. A little too much noise in the clouds on the left. Without knowing your camera or any of your settings, it looks to me as though the light may have been compensated too much. It may have also been shot with too big a file and when it was compressed it may have added undesired noise.
I really like the tonal range in this one. Good blacks without seeming "dark" because your lighter areas are well done as well. Congrats on the lightning capture -- hope you got out safely. :) Very nice shot.
sooooooo cool! I love everything about this image,
the b/w, the dramatic tones, the barbed wire, the hills, and DOH! the lightnig! it really gives it that extra punch of interest. Good luck on a ssuperb image!
WOW. This is awesome. This has so many elements yet it isn't busy. I love the straightness of the fence wire perpendicular to the fenceposts against the roundness of the hills. That little squggle of lightning is like a tiny gift to the shot. The contrast and lighting is super. 10!!!!
