Your image is quite yellowish in tone. Did you shoot this under regular light bulbs? Your white balance might have been set wrong. It's also a little flat lighting wise.

The heather seems to be rather soft , which is probably more to do with the difference between the highligts and shadows on it. so additional lighting would help resolve this.
focus and lighting are a little off and there seems to be a slight color cast on the hand, but with a little more practice, luck may no longer be an illusion. i like your idea
First Impression:I think it is a bit too red, and a bit soft too. The hand (not the fingers), takes up a lot of space but does not contribute. I think it would have benefitted from b&w.
