I thought it would be a good entry for this challenge, so I decided to shoot it again.
I did not intend to do a sepia version, but since the white balance was not properly set, the colors came out very bad. I tried to reshoot it, but couldn't get one as good as this one.
It was not easy to hold the bulb perfectly (I know it's a little bit tilted ...). I also had a hard time to place my fingers in a symmetrical way ... The remote on the G6 was very helpful for this shot !
Setting : I had a flood on my right side, and a small flashlignt was squeezed between my chest and the bulb.
This is beautiful in nearly every way. I don't know why the appearance of being nude adds so much to this picture, but it really is truly complementary.
I personally would have liked overall lighting to be much subtler and softer (as in slightly more spread through the foreground for instance to see more clearly on the thumbs.
After reading how you did this, I think a little more attention on the thumbs would have helped. I was originally thinking that it was lit by small low voltage wires held on by tape and thumbed over. Knowing there were no wires makes the shot that much better. Maybe spillage from another flashlight with a rather tight beam on the front of the bulb?
If it was me, I would have used blue tones and placed more emphasis on the bulb. Mine would have sucked compared to this because yours places the emphasis on skin tones.
Wow. This shot has one thing going for it that I always look for in a portrait/set up/studio type shot. You got awesome lighting going on. You got a great soft focus effect too! I hope you're not getting bad comments about it being out of focus. Soft focus for some reason doesn't seem to do good here. I keep hoping that shots like this will change that. The only minor complaints that I have are that the base of the light bulb is hard to see which doesn't help the illusion. Nor in this instance does the lighting help the illusion. It would have been the first ten in my voting history if the overall lighting would have appeared to have come from the bulb itself and not from outside frame left...
Kudos

This is a difficult shot to take, a very bright object with a dim background. You have done this well and created an interesting illusion to boot.
Well done
First Impression: Ver nice tones. Nice and soft glow.
Was I fooleded? almost. The light source should be the bulb, not frm the right.
Very nicely done.
Very pretty picture. I like the lighting and the soft focus goes well here. I like the illusion illustrated here. The only thing that bothers me is that the lightbulb appears a little crooked. Perhaps a rotation a couple of degrees to the right would fix that. 9
WOW! Great shot, great model and how'd ya pull that one off? The only thing taking away from this IMHO is that the light isn't centered / more vertically positioned. 9
