I had pretty soon made up my mind that I wanted to "finally do the glass thing" to mix colors. I suspect there are going to be many that used food colors to overlay the colors ... oh, well. As I was setting up the shot I lost the colorful split background and just overlayed glasses filled with colored water instead. The purple didn't turn out as purple as I wanted it but I just couldn't get it better without starting totally over and it was already midnight ...
It took me a long time to get this shot to this point, and there are still some flaws (the rim of the tall glass, the slight reflection, the purple not being as purple as I'd like it), but I also like how the two stems line up as if they were one and the bottom of the glass with the red liquid shines through, the background (you know I like my white backgrounds), and the slight abstractness.
I ended up putting the glasses into a large box that was open on both ends, white paper over the backend and then shining the light through the paper. Camera on tripod and timer (manual focus, max aperture, +2.3EV to get background lighter) and then me behind it with some black cardboard to minimize reflection from that end.
What slowed me down the most was that the glasses were so full and the carpet is so soft in that room that I could only walk around in slow motion so as to not spill anything ... :)
