My camera's a point and shoot style, so I basically have little control over the aperature and exposure, etc. With that in consideration, please be kind.

Lovely rose, well done for it, but the cat, even though good contrast element in the photo, is washed out badly. I also think the color value of the grass and the rose are a little too close for the rose to "stand out" as much as I would have liked to have seen it. I really like the edges of the rose petals and the way they stand out. Were the petals tipped in white? Very nice! Photo 8 Creativity 6 B&W 7 total 7
The cat is overexposed, but you probably know that. I can't decide if it adds to it or detracts though. It definitely pulls my attention away from the rose though. A very interesting composition.
I know you say the cat's OOF for a reason, but unfortunately, the reason is not obvious to me when I look at your photo. The cat's also washed out (I'm sure there's a reason for that, too), but overall, IMO, the picture isn't very appealing to me. Sorry.
One of the most difficult subjects is the back of an animal. Just very, very hard to make that interesting, IMO. The overexposure on the cat's back doesn't help matters. Perhaps if it were balanced with some pure black somewhere, but as it is it becomes a white, featureless area in a sea of greys. Did you, by any chance, check out the individual color channels on the original image (if you shot in color)? Maybe there was a more dnamically balanced option there.
I love the flower, but went away from this photo somewhat confused as to the subject. I'm wondering if a wide-angle lens could put the cat more in the background without loosing the perspective on the rose. The back and tail of the cat are also somewhat blown out.
The flower is beautiful, the cat should either be in focus, or even farther out of focus. The way it is now it too distracting/disturbing. I crop of just the flower would be a nice photo.
Get your cat to a vet! It needs focus. OK I read your forum post. It was on purpose. In that case the photo is flat, boring and simply does not work for me. It seems to be grey tones and lacks interest generaly. Of course the next commentor will love it so you must remember that it is you that you must please. I rated this one a 2 because I do not give 1s to photos I feel at least meet the challenge. Pet shots hardly ever work for more than snapshots BTW.
neat photo! i don't really 'understand' any intent or message here but the shot is nice.. i like the blurred cat which forces the subject to be the rose... i would, however, like to see more contrast between the subject and the background... good shot!
