I took this shot at a friend's wedding. The wind was gusting and created quite a good effect on this fellow. I had no intention of entering this challenge but when I had loaded the photo into the computer I thought the "wooden" instrument might be fitting.

A choice photo - very much together. He looks like that was a sour note, or he had been dating the bride and she dumped him - like the sepia treatment, and the rich color of the cello, contrasting somehow with the creation behind him - one a divine one, the other inspired music inspired by divine promptings? Very nice combination - it could be he had a touch of indigestion, or a late night
I like the differential focus too-concentrates on him
Very nice, as are so many of your shots, and the border is the finishing touch here
Good use of desat. His expression, the wind against his hair, and even the choice of the instrument he's playing just gives this a classy look. Very well done. I especially like that this was outside. Just don't see this kind of instrument against that background very often.
Woohoo! Just got home from a trip to the coast and see that this has placed. Glad to see it was so well received as I had no thoughts this shot would ribbon but rather would fetch a 6.something or another. Thanks to all those who have selected this shot as a fav.
Once again, I feel like a cyberland superstar. ;-)
what i like about shots like these is the natural expression on the person. models can hardly potray the real feeling of actually doing something. and i love the way you desaturated colours while remaining the one on the instrument. really brings the viewer's eye to the main "wooden" subject.
I am so excited for you. This was just my most favorite pic of the entire challenge. I could rave for hours, but I think I'll just let you revel in all of the congratulatory notes you'll receive.
Nice, LOVE the dof and image quality but the selective desaturation is hurting the image instead of helping it IMHO. Still one of the very best in the challenge as far as I am concerned! 8 from me.
Very good presentation of a good idea here. Strong, clean composition. Nice editing job. I like your selective desat here, it serves a definite purpose and brings the attention to the instrument. Very well done.
Selective desat is really overdone, but you used it well and used it appropriately here. I love the expression on his face. Beautiful composition. If I could vote in this challenge, I'd give it a 9.
Fantastic Shot. My favorite I've seen so far. My first 10 too. Congrats. - Well,
I've looked at the rest and this is my favorite of the challenge. I hope you do well, Good Luck
Cool!
I'm not absolutely sure about the desaturation, because the photo is already so strong. I love the backlight on the wheat (or other grain).
A winner I'm sure!
Oh this is the BEST of the challenge. So innovative. Bravo for your creativity. The sepia and single sat is perfect. The intensity in his face is brilliant. Kudos to your imaginative take. TEN!!! P.S. The title is just super!!
In this challenge, "Creativity is the Key" is what I am using to score images. Beautiful! From the background blur to the wind in his hair this image is great. Not too fond of the border and unsure of the crop, but as it is the composition works. Love the touch of grass in the midground. 10 - Good luck in the challenge!
The best in the challenge. The player is concentrated and the lighting is good. I like the witty title and you chose focal length wisely for the beautiful scene. The selective desat works very well.
Excellent! I'm not to keen on the border. I think it takes from the subject. It's simply not needed. This is my first 10 of the challenge. Beautiful work!
Really unique photo. One of the few unusual thoughts I've seen for this challenge. I imagine someone will complain about the selective desat, but I think it fits well within the context of your photo. I vote 8.
