Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and generous votes.
I shot this scene handheld with a single 100w light source from above with a cone of white paper around the bulb housing to allow for focusing of light on the subject without illuminating my black background. There were so many interesting sections of this ashtray, I found that floating around it snapping off shots from about 8" away with my Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 set to around 60mm allowed me to capture more of what the scene had to offer as opposed to shooting a staged tripod set up.
This shot matches your name so well. hahaha...just an ashtray. It goes to show that anything can be good, it is the person behind the camera. Great shot!!
I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking at. At all. Nada. Zip. Diddly squat ...
But I like it!
Love the waves/ripples of light, shame there's no colour in them that would be awesome.
Superb shot, 10, I'll be back to find out what the frell it is!
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this picture was SEXY. Very nice and sleek, and I am not sure if this was intended, but it reminds me of a womans body, with her arms up. Nice photo...
I don't know what this is, so I'll assume its some kind of abstract. And I really think its pretty cool. It has some dynamic motion, good lighting and is a very well taken pic.
Can't say enough how much I like this photo! excellent job - would really love to know how this was achieved! Sorry but I can't offer any suggestions for improvement - i like this just the way it is. Good luck in the challenge:)
Very well lit. Although it is very difficult to understand what I'm looking at; It's interesting-intriging and not confusing, not uncomfrotable to look at.
very nice work here, i like the lighting and the black backround highlights your subject. I am not very sure what it is however, but it is very cool looking.
Exposurewise this is good. For composition I think you could lose the dark bottom right corner (crop at the right) and you would gain a lot more impact (but maybe I'm missing something).
