The focus seems sharpest on the strap for the S230. If your image wasn't being evaluated solely by people who will probably like to see a kid with a camera, I'd say that the photo would be stronger without it. Overall I like the shot, but I think that shooting it from a lower angle (looking up at the kid) and having a stronger catchlight would have improved the image.

High quality photo. Don't love the recorder in his hand. I know how hard it is to get kids to do exactly what you want them to. My kids are always holding something or eating something. Anyway, very nice.

Great DOF and composition! Love the expression too. At first, I thought the shot was too bright, but upon further examination I think it works - brings out the innocence, purity, and frailty of the child's expression. Really nice job.
