Highlights and shadows are a bit too extreme, washed out highlights and dark shadows which hides the horses eye. This would have been better if the face was in better light and you could see the horses eye maybe?

IMO, cropping eliminated your subject, a horses shoulder just doesn't do it for me. Show me a face.
