Didn't know what I was going to use as my subject for this challenge. The word "macro" didn't inspire me, and I wanted to have something other than a flower or bug as my subject, so here is the flower-like composition I made with cinnamon sticks and some material. The swirls of the cinnamon sticks caught my eye when I was making muffins this morning.
PP: Slight Crop, Levels, Curves, applying Paint Daubs filter to the material to make it seem softer and more petal-like, Clone to get rid of some too-bright highlights on a couple cinnamon sticks, a bit of Blur on a few places where my layer hadn't gone completely transparent, Clone out a couple spots, USM. Done. Satisfied.

This is to me one of the few actually really creative shots. I appreciate the shots that took advantage of great opportunities, but to make something so great from simple house hold goods, that is creativity.
I have always liked the look of cinnamon sticks. It is indeed one of my favorite spices (and embarassingly one I know sadly little about).
I think I'm going to go do some research on cinnamon now!
A pretty warm composition...I love the design and texture the cinnimon creates....the lightplay on the fabric is also very pleasing...nicely done and something a bit different for the challenge.
I actually like the centered composition on this. Nice rich colors, good saturation. I like whatever you have them wrapped in (cloth?), the colors is very good with the cinnamon.
Well you've thrown the 'avoid centred composition' rule out of the window, and it has worked BRILLIANTLY! :)
Great tones on this one and the cinnamon stick pattern is incredible. I would have perhaps gone with a slightly shallower DOF and I think the cinnamon sticks are a little over saturated/sharpened? Either way I think this is a great shot, and it's really refreshing to see something original in the macro challenge.
7 - Good concept. Nice swirls. For me, would like it much closer and more detail. I like the red 'frame'/background, but a different texture (perhaps not fabric, though I think you were going for a 'swirl' with that too) for me, would have made this a more interesting and unique picture.
Very pretty picture. Lovely warm colors. Another great example of taking something very ordinary, and photographing it from a slightly differnet angle to make it extraordinary. This is a very nice shot. Well done. Good Luck. <10>
Interesting. Looks like a flower but its not. Original anyways. I think the colors are outstanding and the composition is very well done. I'm not fond of the focus or the choice in DoF(mostly at the top). Well done and good luck in this challenge. <9>
Nice colors... Great detail and good focus... i don't know why but this photo makes me think of noble times. I guess the colors and the red cloth on make me think of it.. Nice picture.
