 A cicada shell my daughter found just after this contest started. I have it sitting on a piece of red glass & have one small maglight shining at it. I liked how the glass reflected in its eyes.

I am not a bug person but, a nice shot none the less. I like your choice of a red background and while there is significant shadow on the top that is balanced nicely overall.

Photo is mostly fine. A bit stronger focus would have helped IMO. I don't resonate with the subject much but that's a matter of personal taste. Not so sure about challenge rlevance but I understand your logic.

The colouring and composition of this image is very good.
What insect is it? What is that white substance near the bottom?
