What a wonderful entry for this challenge and one I thought would surely vie for a ribbon. Congrats on a top 20, but more importantly, a beautiful image.
Yes, this was the idea for sure. I knew the challenge would be FULL of lines leading TO subjects, but I actually believe leading lines are most commonly used to lead the eye FROM a subject and INTO (and possibly out of) the picture; especially in landscape photographny, where a foreground subject + leading lines take you into the landscape proper.
Thanks, all, for voting and commenting. Fun shoot.
Well done Robert, like the way this led elswhere than to the subject. Invites me to get in the boat and take a journey. Like the shot and glad it was up top.
This is very, very beautiful. I love the soft focus, but the boat seems perfectly sharp. The line leads my eye from the background to the foreground, which is the opposite from most entries I've seen in this challenge. I think the position of the boat in the frame is perfect.
Beautiful overall composition. The boat in the foreground adds so much to this image. I love the boat's lines, lighting, colors, the reflection in the water, and the tonal gradation of blue from the bow to the stern. As far as leading lines goes, I do feel that the "shoreline" leads my eye *away* from the boat, rather than *towards* it, but I suppose that it leads me into the rest of the picture. Is this bear_music? If not, I apologize.
This is an incredible almost shot, but there are several things that bother me about it. First, your blues look almost to blue and your greens though muted seem, somehow, almost to green. Somehow, you lost a great amount of detail in both the blues and greens. Makes me wonder if it was in the same process... The gradiation in the sky doesn't seem to be equal also. I love this composition, but for some reason it just don't feel real to me...

Before I hit your score. Please don't think this means I don't like your image. I just happen to see so much in the image that I can't help it...
I'll take a chance and say bear...but I am usually wrong when I guess so sorry in advance. Hmmm Lines leading in reverse. Well they certainly do and it takes me some time to get used to it....my eye is always going right to the boat and great reflection so it is very effective in the use of the lines both to the boat and to scene in the background. One of my favorites and I hope it does well.
I love this photo, It's great. I love the colors, the line, the boat, everything. However, I keep wondering if you have someone laying down in the boat, or if you happen to find it that way?
Leading lines or curves generally have two purposes. One is to lead the viewer into the scene. The other is to lead you toward the main subject. It is most effective if they come in from the lower left because that is the natural direction humans visually scan a picture from so are easiest to pick up.
Nice photograph, good colors. I am still trying to understand how is it leading lines.. from what I know, this seems like a 'reverse-leading-line'.. Normaly my eyes start from the closest ( the bottom part ) of picture to go farther, the top part and the lines here are reversed in that manner as they lead from the top to bottom ( far to near )....
This is a beautiful, harmonious composition. I particularly like the effortless use of the leading lines ... the effect is subtle yet compelling at the same time. The mid-ground water looks a tiny bit over sharpened. 8
