I wanted to photograph some insects for the DPC-challenge. Unfortunately it seemed all the insects had left the places where I tried to find them. This little fly was sunbathing. When it noticed me it wanted to fly away. However it was slow enough to be captured :).
I used two close-up lenses (+2 and +5) to get as close as possible.
It is always fun to enter the macro (or is it micro) world. F.e. I didn't notice the little hairs on the leaf until I looked back at this picture.
FYI: the fly was around 8-10 mm in length.

53rd? I would expect higher. This is a good shot and a nice score. I think it might have hurt that it is of an insect rather than a more traditional animal. It's a great macro.
I really like how you used dof to isolate the fly from the lower leaves and suggest distance.
The lighting is bright, but you did a good job with exposure. Nice detail and focus on the subject. Maybe you could crop some off the right side so that the fly isn't so centered. The color is nice. Maybe another frame would be nice - some burgundy and black?
he's got wings, he'll make it! I love the colour on this, and the detail on the fly is great too, especially since you're not "face to face" with it! Good use of the green around the fly too.
The title is so apt, Great detail on this tiny view - even the translucent shadows of the fly;s wings on the leaf. The composition with the fly perched ready to take the big leap is great. I would have cropped a little moe off the left though - bring more attention to the fly.
But it has wings! Nice work - the light has flattened the texture of the leaf a little, which is a pity, but I like the composition, and detailing is good.
