Shot with 250W [almost] overhead tungsten light against draped fabric. The vase was stuffed so our friendly subject had a place to stay and explore my studio setup while I fired away shots.
Photoshop: Selective Color with a boost to whites, levels adjustment, and some sharpening. Would have spot-editted the background a bit and removed the harsh glare if the rules allowed it...
Model provided courtesy of my cousin's pet rat, Ceres.
I know, its not a collective group of animals, but its not often that one of my regular shoots matches the theme of the competition during a given week, and fauna does refer to the animal kingdom as a whole. Whatever happens, I feel I captured a pretty good moment and met the challenge decently.

This photo sorta reminds me of one of those 'inspirational' cards that you see around with some cheezy saying to go along with the humorous image on the card :) The 'fauna' element is present in the photo, but the fauna doesn't really seem to represent the subject of the image. It does play nicely into the theme however...
The image seems to be framed a little too tight to suit my personal taste. I think the subject could use just a little extra breathing room in the frame. Each edge of your frame is very close to some element of the subject. Backing up from the subject could possibly also reduce the glare on the front of the vase.
So Cute. what is it? My friend thinks it's a rat. I like the grainyness of the shadows, and the texture of the cup. The light spot of the cup looks sarutated though. maybe unavoidable to get the shadows and background as it is. 9
I love the creativity of this shot! The lighting is a bit harsh, so that is a point to improve on, but I just love this little face popping out of the jar! definately a bump above the rest!
totally adorable. I am not sure what post processing you did, but the edges of our little gerbil friend seem jagged and unnatural, and a flash from the left and behind would have eliminated that shadow. :)
Very cute. I love the browns, and the composition. However, I don't think I would have edited out the background so much. It looks like an unsuccessful attempt to do a clean studio shot and is actually kinda distracting - the handles shadow especially.
b\g is too bright with this pot against it. The flash/glare on the pot.. darn. This is cute.............really cute. You can fix these small things after the challenge. Darling shot. I was a potter for a living in another life. :)
[Comment only] Is that a rat? If so, I never knew rats could look so cute. Maybe I think so only because it's rat tail is not visible... that's a plus in my books ;-) Good idea and executed fairly well. The only thing I would change is maybe shoot at a slightly higher angle. Right now my eyes are drawn to the bulb of the pitcher first.
