This was a 7 o'clock game, it hit 90 degrees today, I was suppose to work 10am to 7pm but the computers went down, so instead of going home my son and I went to a Portland Beavers game. It’s just single A ball, but it was fun…
I was about 300 feet away using the sigma 200mm zoom hand held. This lens works well; I was surprised how well I could keep the shutter speed up., shot at 400iso, kept me in the 400 to 500 range. Later when it got darker, I only had to bump it to 800 iso. Started at f4, as it got dark went to f3.2.

Self Appraisal:
Not sure how it's going to score? I fill it meets the spirit of the challenge well, if anybody has umpired before you know most every decision is criticized, as for the lens and the crop its pretty sharp, good colors, composition is good. I don't like the dirt around the turf at the base but over all it’s a good sports shot, if I was to vote prob. a 7.
I enjoy shooting sports/action shots. This one is for me, so I guess we'll see........ace

Good composition with very little in the way of distractions. IMO it would have been even better if you'd left the shot for just a little later to get the call.
this is the first idea i had when i saw this challenge...so i must say its a good one! (Didn't have time to enter this week). You,ve done a great job with this capture!
SAFE! Is this AAA ball? Pretty good capture. Too bad 15 is blocking the view of the plate! Could use a hair more contrast. Since you are showing a decision being made I am awarding 2 extra points - 9 from me! Good luck in the challenge.
One of the better baseball shots, because it has the umpire on the brink of a call or decision. Could be a little sharper but the composition is spot-on. Nice sports photography!
