I gave this photo a ten (along with 27 others)..Maybe I'm new at this and I'm missing something here, but I certainly cannot understand why people would give it a one, or even two for that matter... I think its absolutely brilliant, and the low scores were rather unfair...

Great visual with great color and form projection which invites immediate attention to resolve its essence. Very impressive. Congratulations on your top ten finish.
As we voters have found out, it is not easy to make art out of an apple using a camera. But, you have succeeded admirably. This slice of focus cuts like a paring knife into its center, revealing an almost breathing lifeform. The furlike fuzz on the stalk makes this fruit nearly animal-like in suggestion. My pick for the blue this week and so have added to my favorites list.
I've seen a shot like this. and this is a better version. i like this picture it is a print avaible shot and i know that youre going to get a ribbon for this. good job. nice composition, texture. contrast abstract good shot. 10
I like this a lot better than most. But i can't help but wonder how much more i might have liked it if you had shortened the stem so it stopped with more free space at the top. Or perhaps just didn't get quite as tight on the apple.
A classic composition that works well. The picture requires maybe a little bit more surrounding to fit the title "apple". Without name the target remains mystery. But anyhow, I like photo and its colours, sharpness, blurness etc. a lot.
Very very cool shot. I can't wait to see what kind of lens you used on this beautiful macro. This was the only still life that I liked this much. I guess you can't get too close!
great macro! I'm impressed. I gave you a high score mostly because I like the compositon and the shot in general. there is a little bit of noise in there but overall excellent job!
