Lots of snow there. Just appears as a snapshot to someone who does not know the background/history of the shot. The flash did give you a good white color to the snow, but it fades out the rest of the photo.
Still winter huh? Don't worry spring is on its way to you too. The contrast of darkness in the background and lightness in the foreground is a little extreme here.
might have cropped so the bench was centered, and/or cropped out a lot of the top. returning with a tripod and doing a long exposure w/out flash might have made a nice shot too.
