I like the concept (and I believe you're the only one to use it). In general, I like black & whites, but wonder whether the bright colors of the pieces might not have helped this, IMHO. If you really wanted to stick with black & white, perhaps a larger contrast (more bright whites) would have helped.

This is an effective composition - but I find you really need black blacks and white whites to make a black and white photograph work. A white background may have done the trick - with a higher contrast to ensure the darkest shadows are black. 5
