A bolt with a 5-sided head.
* Yes - it's real.
* Yes, it'll get hammered by the voters.
* No, I don't care - always wanted to do something with this damned bolt Toyota decided in their infinite wisdom to use!

This one was worth the comments alone - & 2Shay, you're a NUT!
Brad,
Congratulations on the 9th place! It was definitely one of my favorites. If I'm a nut, then you must be a "loose screw".... hmmm.. or is it a "screw loose"? Either way, I must have had a strange week at work, because most of my comments on this challenge were a bit goofy. I had fun with the scoring, and glad to see that you did too!
Where on do you find this nut anyway? I may have to go search my toyota....
Thanks Chris.
This 5-sided bolt is out of the variable valve timing mechanism in a late-model Corolla. Very tricky/touchy mechanism and I guess they didn't want anyone from making a mistake and taking these out by accident.
(Didn't stop me! - LOL)
Gotta laff at the comment regarding whether you deliberately sandpapered the wrench, and how it would be better if the scratches were radial... I guess you're too good of a shooter for folks to believe you're actually a mecanic with working tools. I bet some of the same comments when i use my kitchen stuff. I'll go buy a complete backup set of everything for pictorial duty if you'll go get a duplicate tool kit for photo opportunities.
That'll keep both of us out of Big Glass range for a while LOL.
Hurray for Brad. A nuts and bolt image with great lighting to show off the glitter and wear and tear of the wrench. Congratulations on your top 10 finish.

One of these days I NEED to get a tripod and something better for my lighting other than my fluorescent work light I use here in the shop - or maybe not...
Thanks all - hope you got as much of a chuckle out of this as I did!
Really nice shot with some great lighting. Excellent clarity and focus. Love the positioning of the wrench and screw...really good composition. B&W totally works for this! Great shot!
Hah! Very funny! Probably a cost cutting measure at Chrysler... Hey boss, we could save .00002 on each bolt if we made it 5 sided instead of 6, and as a bonus, it matches our logo! Excellent Fred! We're promoting you to Sr. VP of Engineering. Hah Hah. Sorry, got carried away with myself! Back to the photo. I love the idea. The background is a bit distracting, and lighting could be a bit better on the wrench, but the creativity is excellent. Right up there near the top for me! Good job.
Nicely processed image. It interests me a lot, but at the same time I feel that the compositional balance could be improved. I feel that it lacks something but at the same time find it beautiful.
good idea and well executed. the spanner is a bit oo scratched, the scratches steal the attention away from the odd nut. On further thought the scratches are really strange, did you do them with a piece of sandpaper? In my mind the scratches should be in line with the usual movement of the spanner, i.e. curving across it not lengthwise on it.
DOF brilliant.
good luck. /8
