This is the first time I have played around with some lights and posterboard. Two 500W halogen work lamps and a small halogen desk lamp overhead. Post-processing was Auto Contrast, USM at 56%, 3.4, 1, Hue/Sat layer to bump the yellow up by 20. My personal wishes are that the flower be in better shape and the faint shadow to the right be shorter.
A week or two later I reshot the flower after it had dried up. See it in my portfolio here

I thought to myself, "Yeah, another flower on white" but I liked it. As noticed by a few the darker half to the right would have been better removed, as well as the long shadow from the flower. I found the shadows to be really important to this photo. Lighting this was really an experiment and proved to be fairly difficult. I shall revisit it. Given my interpretation of the rules, I didn't eliminate some of the flaws in the flower.
It looks as if you have used flash for this shot. Flash (when used correctly) can be very eye pleasing.
You covered the topic very well. I think I would like to see this photo as a High Key shot. Or even further, maybe a single light source (It looks like you've used two lights here, one above camera right, and one camera left @ lens height to give the more drastic shadow) I think having both shadows takes away from the flower. Also I would of tried to rid the right corner of the dark area.
To be repetitive, I think this would make a fantastic high key shot.
