I took this with the help of my roommate and his girlfriend. The lighting was pretty simple. It was mid day and we just opened the window and stoof a few feet away. I also turned on the overhead flouresant light for a bit of fill. I balanced for sunlight (cloudy -2 for D70 users...thanks Manny!).

Nice composition.
Lighting here is very well done in my opinion, with the right side falling off into the shadows. Detail & clarity, as well as natural skin tones a plus. (7)
The jewelry seems to be a second point in this photo - the hands are overpowering what you intended to be the primary object. JMO. Nice ring...the reflections on the front of it make it look like there is something under the ring. If the hand were positioned down just a smidgen more it may have helped. Always easy to be the armchair quaterback I know. Good luck in the challenge.
This is really excellent, but I think only lacking a spotlight on the central gem to make it pop out. As is, it is rather difficult to see. Nice hand models. Good luck!
