There is not really that much work gone into the processing of this - the rocks and tree are selected using a mask created from a threshold-adjusted version of the image, and brightened to bring them into a more 'real' balance with the sky.
I will go back to this place very soon - unfortunately my trip had to be a week or so early for the tree to be in leaf, as I would have preferred it for this image.

Wonderful shot, and thanks for the info on using the threshold for creating a mask - this never crossed my mind before.. great job and congrats on the ribbon!
The post processing on this shot is excellent. I so wish you would write a tutorial on how you got from the shot image to this one especially the sky I've been really struggling with skies in many of my shots. I just can not seem to grasp that. Well done on the third place.
Beautiful Full Frame! You should definately visit the tree again when it is leaf, it could become a series/pairing. Excellent subject and composition. Well done!
What a striking image! Great use of processing to really enhance the image and bring out the perfect balance between foreground and backdrop sky... It's that greeny-yellowy lichen/ moss on the rocks that clinches this one for me. CONGRATS on the ribbon!
So glad to see this take a ribbon. This was one of my favorites this challenge! Love the clarity and contrast of the almost surreal ground colors against that awesome sky! Used a polarizer right? Great job.
Yours

Thankyou all - I really didn't think this was going to make it into the ribbons, there were so many other contenders I could see. A very pleasant surprise this morning - grey, wet, prospectively boring day ahead, and this brightens it some.
What can I say, just a breath taking photograph! I would almost have called this Solitude. I don’t like to use WOW but this deservers a few of them, superb job on this one and good luck in the challenge.
A beautiful tree which captures the essence of Bonsai - the discovery and emulation of a full size tree is the inspiration behind the art. The centering works well - sky is a touch overcooked - but the light is great. Love it.
Love the simplicity of this shot. I really think you should put this up as a print, I'd imagine it will have mass appeal, and would have add a calming atmosphere to any room. 10
enchanting. looks like something from a story book. Great use of colors and composition. I love the blue of your sky, and the brown is great with the hints of green... I guess what im tyring to say is that i love the shot :-), well done. 10
Normally I do not like borders, but this one works for me.... it compliments the photo instead of distracting from it. the tree looks as if it has weathered some storms in its day, and that is further protrayed in the stones it is growing from. Great job. Good luck.
Cool shot. It kinda works with the tree being centered, maybe because it looks like its pointing or bending to the left. Can't help but think if it would have been better if the tree wasn't so centered.
This one belongs on the wall!!!!! I'll be back later to see if you put a location in the description. I love the gradation of colors in the sky as well as on the ground. The sharpness, where it counts, is perfect. 10
Beautiful shot, but what is it with these thick white borders that don't let you enjoy the photo as they keep pulling your eye away? It really does make a difference and it's sad that I feel the need to take points away because it spoils the photo.
