I cleaned the inside of this clock twice, but some dust still managed to get in there and detract from this image. It’s disappointing to me that the clone tool is prohibited on this site, especially when you consider the extent an image can be distorted with other "legal" techniques.
A relatively dust free version of this photo can be seen here: //www.pbase.com/image/14631480/original.jpg

Achiral: The shot was actually taken mid-day in a sunlight room. I partially wrapped the clock and camera with black foam to get the exposure I wanted, and to control reflections. Here's what the setup looks like.
The hardest part of this shot -- aside from the dust -- was focus. Each time I modified the composition, I'd have to wait for the second hand to return to xx:35, and then had to work fast. :-)
e301 -- The clock is the sort that advances to the next second very quickly, then also stops quickly -- that's why you don't really see any motion blur between the seconds.
Swash -- Even though the second hand stops for almost a full second, I still needed to experiment with the angle of the camera so the photo would show enough of a side view. I had a few shots taken from a more vertical angle, and the second hand is hardly visible -- it's too thin.
This is well done. I actually wanted to try and do an image like this for another project I have, but I haven't yet tried. The clarity and the detail (absent the dust) is excellent.
Well, it's been done before, but I like the way this one looks. I would get rid of the dust flecks, if they're on the outside, and make sure the shiny parts are well polished.
Nicely done! The way which you have executed this technique is great. The angle which this was taken was a very nice touch and makes your entry stand out.
Ah, the first clock shot that I like. And I seem to be getting all the good ones together. This is wonderful - is this a long exposure or multiple - the latter I'd guess, as there's so very little motion blur between the iterations of the second hand. Great work. Really great work. I've been out all day today shooting, and this shot has really stayed in my mind - one of the best shots I've seen on the entire site. One thing: coming back to it, those dust spots really bother me (if that's what they are)
