Bored people do boring things, or so it seems. This was tricky but fun to do.
Idea:
Building card houses seems a desparate timepasser for rainy days to me. As with so many things, there are different
points of view. I'm sure many people out there do this as some kind of hobby, but I'd have to be really, really bored to
do this (okay, I did it, in the end). I don't know if the idea is very clear, as my sister doesn't look bored - that
seemed to boring an expression to me ;) I'm sure I'll see plenty of that in this challenge.
Setup:
Tricky, tricky, tricky. Firt of all, the card house. The one you see is the second I made, the first one crashed
yesterday as I tested the lighting. I glued this one, just to make sure. I'm not very patient, and I had to learn for a
class paper as well... The cards stand on a posterboard which stands on a bench which stands on a table. I wanted the
cards to be far from the floor. The tripod stood in a rather unstable position, because of the strange angle I wanted to
shoot at. Furthermore, I had to climb on the table everytime I wanted to adjust something.
All is painted with light. First I painted the cards from behind, then my sister moved into the frame, I lighted her
hands and arms, then the face from different sides. Hence the strange look of her face, she shifted slightly while I was
changing sides. I used a halogen bicycle flashlight. Not very professional, but it did the job.
Post Processing:
Levels, HSL on blue channel, crop, resize, USM (0,75/120/0), 2px white border, save for web.
Comments:
The only two things which really bother me are 1) the awful hotspots in the fullsize original (is the G2 dying?) and
that Picasso-look on my sister's face. It's hard to hold that still for 15 seconds...during 20 shots! So:
Many thanks to Denise, who patiently posed for this shot. Outtakes and all that stuff on gloda.net.

Congratulations on your 7th finish with this feat which requires not only a lot of free time but a mind focused on its intent. This guy can make a lot of money if he would merely change focus.lol
I'm not so sure I'd consider this boredom, but the lighting, color and point of view are fantastic. I'll bet you get some low scores and still hit the top 5, maybe even a ribbon. Good luck! 8
Great exposure control, really like the shadows on the lady, pretty intense, not to sure about the bright colored cards, the color pops for sure..........7 for now, will try to come back........well done
Great shot! I would have given it a 10 except for one thing, the angle (or something) is making the models face look really weird and it's distracting from the rest of the shot...oh...and I"m guessing this was a double exposure or something because I can see the cards through the models hands...
Great composition otherwise though, so I'm giving it a 9!
The odd illumination of the model's eye is a bit distracting, as are the odd time lag artifacts resulting from the long/multiple exposure (model's right hand going through one of the cards, model's eyes oddly askew). I'd say that the theme is a bit closer to tedium than boredom, but still a solid entry.
Nice image. Seems to be a bit of ghosting on your model's finger. Very sharp for what seems to be a long exposure. Interesting lighting. Not an out and out "bored" message, but I get the idea!
Great lighting and setup in this one. But I have to ask...did you lose the stack during the shot?? There's some blurryness on each hand and it looks like on of the red cards slipped.
